What Good Couch Commentary Actually Sounds Like
How to talk someone through a frame-perfect trick without stepping on the moment it lands...
When a runner goes quiet because they're locked into the hardest trick in the run, the couch has one job... tell everyone watching what's at stake before it happens, then let the moment breathe.
Set the Stakes Early, Then Get Out of the Way
The biggest mistake in speedrun commentary is explaining a trick after it's already over. If a runner does a two-frame clip through a wall and nobody on the couch mentioned it ahead of time, first-time viewers just think the game is glitchy.
If you take ten seconds before the room to say, 'Watch this corner... if they hit this jump on a two-frame window, we skip half the dungeon, and if they miss, we lose two minutes,' suddenly everybody in the room and everybody in chat is leaning forward together.
